Betamax (aka Betacord, Betamovie & Beta Hifi) to DVD and Bluray |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
The Betamax format was first introduced in 1975 by Sony. The tape size was 155 x 95 x 24mm. Betamax comes from the way the tape would like the Greek letter "β" and had a second significance in Japanese that explained the way the video signal was written to the tape.
The "max" suffix was to signify maximum as in maximum quality. Betamax was marketed as Betacord(Sanyo), Betamovie(mainly early models), Beta HiFi, Super Beta and just plain Beta.
The tape format was originally a cut down version of U-Matic, the professional format of the time. Betamax, on the other hand, became the prototype for Betacam, a professional format that uses the same size cassette, derivations of which are still used today. DVD Infinity can transfer all PAL & NTSC Betamax tapes to DVD. The following table shows the number of feet contained on a Betamax tape, depending on the video standard and the record speed. BI, BII and BIII refer to the three stages of NTSC Betamax developments that attempted to increase the short play time.

| Basic Video Copy | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This is for those who want to preserve their footage in the best possible way. Its more than just your video on DVD. Over 90% of consumer video has blanks, static and gaps as well as areas where the camera cap has been left on or the camera has been facing the ground. Using the most professional broadcast quality equipment available (no DVD Recorders or direct VHS to DVD units) and highly specialised technicians (no low end completely automated processes), we digitally optimise your video signal, and reduce noise and distortion for clean and clear pictures, cutting blanks and static, before transferring your precious video to DVD. We remove areas where the camera cap was left on or the camera was facing the ground. By cutting out the bits that nobody wants, the viewing experience is substantially enhanced. We add event chapter points (eg. where the footage changes from a children's birthday to a ski trip) for easy searching. |

| Deluxe Video Copy | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This is the ultimate in DVD. It is for those who want a Hollywood style DVD Production from their precious memories. In addition to what we do for the Basic Copy, we create a Hollywood style DVD production using your video. The package includes professionally designed interactive animated menus and scene selection, themed backgrounds and even a personalised DVD and cover (using your photo and choice of title). We use multi pass variable bit rate encoding (as used by Hollywood DVD Productions). We convert most consumer video formats (both PAL and NTSC) including:

We do not put more than 100 minutes on a single DVD to ensure that quality is not diminished. We maintain your video in its native format. We could transfer your Australian/International (PAL) format video to American (NTSC) format to make it work all around the world. However, this would severely reduce the quality(from 625 lines for PAL to only 525 lines for NTSC), and also means that your disk would not be 100% compatible with all TVs in Australia.
BEWARE: There are other operators in the world who are starting to offer low quality automated DVD Production. These low quality automated DVDs may seem attractive until you start to look at them carefully. They reduce the quality of your footage in a number of ways. They do not optimise the input video signal or the compression onto the DVD, losing precious quality from your work. They use consumer grade equipment instead of professional equipment, losing more quality. They do not cut out blanks and static, nor the inherent bad takes (such as when the camera cap was left on or the camera was shooting feet because someone forgot to switch it off). Instead of creating meaningful chapter points (to allow you to jump where you want to jump) you end up with no chapter points or with meaningless points generated by a computer every X minutes. They then output to cheap and nasty quality DVDs which will cause you problems on playback. Most of these operators use low quality consumer equipment, severely robbing you of the quality you deserve. Whilst some do not provide physical business addresses, other do not even provide a telephone number. You risk losing your precious memories. Beware as you will only get what you pay for.
